Official Visit of Speaker of Parliament to Hanoi, Vietnam

18 May 2022 to 20 May 2022

Speaker Tan Chuan-Jin made an Official Visit to Hanoi, Vietnam, from 18 to 20 May 2022 at the invitation of his counterpart Chairman of the National Assembly of Vietnam Vuong Dinh Hue.

Mr Tan led a delegation of six Singapore Members of Parliament (MPs): Mr Patrick Tay Teck Guan, Mr Chua Kheng Wee Louis, Ms Carrie Tan, Dr Wan Rizal, Mr Don Wee and Mr Xie Yao Quan. This was Mr Tan’s first Official Visit to Vietnam as Speaker.

In Hanoi, Mr Tan and the delegation of MPs held meetings with Chairman Hue and other representatives to dialogue, exchange views, foster contacts and relations between members of the two parliaments. During the Visit, Mr Tan and Chairman Hue signed a parliamentary cooperation MOU as a signal of the mutual commitment to deepen relations ahead of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Singapore and Vietnam next year.

The delegation also made courtesy calls on General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh; and caught up with Singaporeans living in and around Hanoi in a reception.
