Official Visit of Speaker of Parliament to Jakarta, Indonesia

Speaker of Parliament Tan Chuan-Jin called on the President of the Republic of Indonesia, H.E. Joko Widodo at the Istana Merdeka in Jakarta on 20 November 2019.

During their meeting, Speaker Tan and President Joko Widodo reaffirmed the warm and longstanding friendship between Singapore and Indonesia. They also exchanged views on regional and global developments, and discussed ways to further strengthen bilateral cooperation.

Speaker Tan was in Jakarta from 18 to 20 November 2019 in his first official visit to Indonesia as the Speaker of Parliament. He was accompanied by Members of Parliament Ms Joan Pereira, Mr Low Thia Khiang, Mr Gan Thiam Poh, Mr Henry Kwek, Mr Saktiandi Supaat and Mr Murali Pillai.

During the visit, Speaker Tan and his delegation met the Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly Mr Bambang Soesatyo, Jakarta Governor Mr Anies Baswedan, as well as Members of the Commission I and the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Committee from the House of Representatives. The visit was an opportunity for the parliamentarians of both countries to meet and dialogue, with a view to broadening and deepening relations.
